Code of Conduct

At Lingo Flamingo, we want every learner to feel welcome, respected and comfortable taking part in our classes. Learning a language should be enjoyable, supportive and accessible to everyone. To help create a positive learning environment, we ask all students to follow these simple rules:

1. Treat everyone with respect

Students should treat tutors, other learners, staff and volunteers with kindness, courtesy and respect at all times.

2. Be welcoming and inclusive

Everyone should feel able to participate, regardless of their age, ability, background, language level or previous experience. Discrimination, prejudice or exclusion of any kind will not be tolerated.

3. Listen to others

Please allow other learners to speak and avoid interrupting, talking over others or dominating discussions. Everyone should have the opportunity to participate.

4. Be patient and supportive

Learning a new language can sometimes be challenging. Students should encourage and support one another and never make fun of someone for making a mistake.

5. Follow the tutor’s guidance

Students are expected to follow reasonable instructions from the tutor and to participate appropriately in activities and discussions.

6. Keep discussions appropriate

Lingo Flamingo classes should be positive and welcoming environments. Students should avoid offensive, aggressive, threatening or inappropriate language or behaviour.

7. Respect personal boundaries

Students should respect the personal space, privacy and boundaries of others. Unwanted physical contact, harassment or behaviour that makes another person feel uncomfortable is not acceptable.

8. Allow everyone to learn

Students should avoid behaviour that significantly disrupts the class or prevents others from learning. This includes persistent interruptions, excessive noise or deliberately distracting others.

9. Use phones and devices considerately

Mobile phones and other devices should be used appropriately during class. Where possible, notifications should be silenced and devices should not distract from the learning experience.

10. Look after the learning environment

Students should treat Lingo Flamingo materials, equipment and the facilities where classes take place with care and respect.

11. Raise concerns appropriately

If a student has a concern about a class, tutor or another learner, they should speak to the tutor or a member of the Lingo Flamingo team rather than allowing disagreements to disrupt the class.

Dealing with inappropriate behaviour

Lingo Flamingo will always aim to deal with concerns fairly, respectfully and proportionately. Where behaviour does not meet these expectations, the tutor may speak privately with the student and explain the concern. If deemed necessary or if inappropriate behaviour continues, the matter may be referred to a member of the Lingo Flamingo team. Serious behaviour, including bullying, harassment, discrimination, threatening behaviour or behaviour that places others at risk, may result in a student being asked to leave the class or, where necessary, being excluded from future Lingo Flamingo activities.

Our shared commitment

By attending a Lingo Flamingo class, we ask everyone to help us create an environment where people feel safe, respected, included and confident to learn. We are all learners, and we all have a part to play in making our classes enjoyable for everyone.
