Oor Scots Coorse

At Lingo Flamingo, language is aboot mair than juist words- it’s aboot connection, identity, and a sense o’ belangin. That’s why we’re fair chuffed to be nearing completion o’ oor new Scots Workbook wi’ the Open University, specially created for oor community classes in care hames. 

While oor sessions often explore languages frae aa ower the warld, this project brings us richt hame. Scots is deeply woven intae the cultural fabric o’ Scotland, carryin memories, humour, and a guid wheen o’ stories that still resonate wi’ the auld yins we work wi’. In oor care hame classes, we’ve seen hoo familiar words and phrases can spark recognition, crack, and blethers, even amang those livin wi’ dementia.

The Scots Workbook has been designed wi’ this at its hert. It’s no juist aboot learnin vocabulary, but aboot celebratin identity and creatin space for connection. Through sangs, sayins, poetry, and gentle prompts for conversation, it helps fowk reconnect wi’ their ain experiences and share them wi’ ithers.

As a social enterprise, oor mission is tae reduce isolation and improve wellbeing through language learnin. We cannae wait tae bring the Scots Workbook intae oor sessions and keep celebratin the richness o’ language, culture, and community thegither.
